Born in Tokyo in 1950. In 1970 he assisted his father, Tokumitsu Iwago, a professional nature photographer in Galapagos Islands. There he was fascinated by the great nature and wild animals unafraid of people, and he himself starts his career as a photographer. Ever since he has visited and stayed at various areas on earth, taken striking yet heart-warming photographs of wild animals in their full liveliness. In 1982, he moved with his family into Serengeti National Park, Africa and lived there for a year and a half. Photographs taken there were published as Okite, (Shougakukan, 1986) and it has been a best seller worldwide. As a cat lover, he also takes cat photos as his life work.
